Tend: Scar Release Therapy
A gentle, hands-on treatment for C-section and abdominal scars.
Every scar has its own story
For some people, a scar simply becomes part of their body.
For others, it can feel numb, tight, tender, sensitive, tingly, painful, unfamiliar, or difficult to touch. Sometimes it is the physical feeling that brings someone in. Sometimes it is the way the area looks or feels in their body. Sometimes it is the experience around the scar that still feels unresolved.
Scar Release Therapy is gentle work with the scar and surrounding tissue, guided by your comfort, your breath, and what feels appropriate on the day.
This treatment supports abdominal scars from C-section birth, hysterectomy, laparoscopic surgery, endometriosis-related surgery, appendix removal, and other abdominal surgeries.
Treatment may include work around the scar, abdominal wall, diaphragm, ribs, hips, and surrounding soft tissue. The focus is on supporting scar mobility, tissue glide, sensation, breath, comfort, and connection through the area.
Some of the reasons people seek this work include...
Your scar feels numb, tight, tender, tingly, painful, or different to the surrounding area.
Your scar feels stuck, restricted, or uncomfortable when you move.
You notice pulling, tightness, or discomfort around your abdomen, ribs, back, hips, or pelvis.
You feel disconnected from the area, or you have avoided touching your scar since surgery.
You are aware of changes around the scar or lower abdomen, including the c-section shelf, and would like support that looks beyond weight or appearance alone.
Your birth or surgery was a significant experience, and you would like some space to acknowledge that.
You have been told your scar has healed well, but something still does not feel quite settled.
You are curious about scar therapy and wondering whether it might be supportive for you.
Who is this treatment for?
Scar Release Therapy is suitable for people with abdominal scars from surgery, including:
C-section birth
Hysterectomy
Laparoscopic procedures
Endometriosis-related surgery,
Appendix removal and
Other abdominal surgeries.
For c-section scars, this treatment is available from around six weeks postpartum, once you have been cleared by your GP or obstetrician.
There is no expiry date on this work. Whether your scar is new, months old, or many years old, you are welcome.
This treatment is currently offered by Mon, who is trained in the C-Section Release Method through Body Lane.
What to expect
-
Your session begins with a consultation.
You will be asked about your scar, your birth or surgery, your recovery, your current symptoms, and what you are noticing in your body now.
This may include questions about scar sensation, pain, numbness, tingling, pulling, abdominal comfort, movement, breathing, pelvic floor symptoms, continence concerns, and any treatment or support you have already received.
You do not need to have the right words for it, and you are welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable.
This is also where anything outside the scope of this treatment can be discussed, including whether another practitioner may be helpful alongside your scar work.
-
Sessions are slow, gentle, and guided by your comfort.
The treatment may include gentle scar release techniques, breath awareness, and soft tissue work around the scar, abdominal wall, diaphragm, ribs, hips, and surrounding areas.
The scar is not usually where treatment begins. The surrounding area is often worked with first, so your body has time to settle before direct scar work begins.
With your consent, a photo may be taken at the beginning and end of your treatment to help track any visible changes side by side. Photos are always optional. They are used as a helpful reference.
You stay in control of the pace, pressure, and how much of the area is worked with. Consent is ongoing throughout the session.
You can pause, adjust, or stop at any point.
-
There will be time to check in about how the session felt and anything you noticed.
Some people notice changes in how the area feels or moves. Some notice changes in their breath, posture, comfort, or awareness of the area. Some may notice visible changes in how the abdomen or scar area sits.
There is no right way to experience this work.
You may also be shown simple ways to support the area at home between sessions.
-
It is completely okay if part of what brings you here is how your scar or lower abdomen looks.
Scar Release Therapy works with the scar, abdominal wall, diaphragm, ribs, hips, and surrounding soft tissue. The treatment supports scar mobility, tissue glide, breath, sensation, comfort, and awareness through the area.
For some people, this can also change how the abdomen or scar area sits, moves, or feels in clothing. Visible change is possible, especially where restriction, posture, breath, pressure, or lymphatic flow are part of the picture.
The main focus is helping the area feel more comfortable, responsive, and connected to the rest of your body.

There is no rush. This work can be supportive months or years after birth.

Yes.
There is no expiry date on this work. Some people come in while their scar is still quite new. Others come in years later because the area still feels tight, numb, sensitive, restricted, or disconnected.
-
For some people, yes. Scar Release Therapy may create visible changes in how the scar or lower abdomen sits, especially when restriction, tension, posture, breath, pressure, or lymphatic flow are involved.
The treatment focuses on function first: mobility, comfort, sensation, breath, and connection through the area.
Visible change can be part of the process, but it is not something that can be guaranteed.
